During the Christmas holiday I decided to host a house party, just
family and friends. My dears, hosting isn't easy at all. I'll start with the
cooking, I don't have a personal chef yet so I decided to "borrow/hire"
someone's chef. Took permission weeks before my event but when the day arrived
the chef wasn't allowed to work for me (long story) so, I, my sister and my
younger brother did all the work. My plan to sit with my guests, eat etc was
cancelled. I was in the kitchen for hours, from the beginning of my party till
everyone left. At the end of the day I was walking like an old woman cause of
waist pain Lol!.
Cake and small chops (if you are Nigerian you’d know what small
chops is) was done by a catering company. So, while I was cooking I left to
pick them up because I didn't spring for delivery and my plan was for my driver
to pick them up but he called in sick and seeing it was the holidays same day
delivery services wasn’t available. Therefore, I had to do all the pickups
myself (imagine the stress).
Barbecue was the only thing that went as
planned. They showed up and delivered perfectly. The entire Barbecue was done
at my house so he came with all he needed, setup and everyone loved it.
He made; Cat fish, Crocker Fish
Barbecue, Asun (peppered goat meat) roasted plantain, smoked chicken and turkey
and Potatoes fries with pepper sauce,
I
made fried rice, a lot of people make fried rice different ways. I
however enjoy my fried rice with a lot of vegetables and meat i.e carrots,
green peas, sweet corn, diced meat, spring onions, fresh pepper, bell pepper.
But the sweet secret to my perfect fried rice is that I fry my rice with
cooking butter not vegetable oil.
You need to try it
if you haven't and for those that have tried using butter, they know how
amazing it is and you must always make your fried rice that way because you
can't go back to using oil anymore.
In
all, I enjoyed myself i.e being with friends and family, it was amazing because
majority of the time we're all busy working/engaged with one thing or the
other. So, it's nice when everyone comes together and have a nice time. That
being said, I wouldn't like to host this year again Lol, I would like to be the
guest. Relax, eat and have fun, because the clean up after everyone leaves
isn't easy at all.
